Start off your session with an intense cardio for 10 minutes. Running, rowing or the bike can be used to get the heart pumping. The key is to get the heart racing and keep it racing through out your session. This helps a lot.
Next move onto exercises that involve squats. You can research a bit further online. But swats with a kettle bell works great. Squats are the best routine because you are working the biggest muscles in your body. After your first session you might find it hard to walk for a couple of days but I promise you, you'll be used to them after the second squat session.
The reason why weights are a good alternative to flat out cardio is because you burn calories a lot faster.
